Although voters declined the borough ballot initiative to create a Law Enforcement Service Area in Nikiski, proponents of the proposition say they are glad it created a community conversation.

Ben Carpenter was outspoken about supporting the efforts to increase law enforcement in his home town.

The LESA proposal failed by 55.92% after absentee votes were counted and Carpenter says he would like to find an option that more of his Nikiski neighbors can support.

He says so far the group behind the LESA proposition has not met to organize post-election efforts. Carpenter says there are some discussions he would like to further with his community.

Another idea previously discussed at community meetings as a way  to get law enforcement in Nikiski has been incorporation.
