The Alaska Libertarian Party has maintained at least 3% of the statewide vote, securing their status as a party. But new Chair Rob Clift said they’re hoping to grow the movement….
Clift: “Obviously, we want to expand our membership and our base. The party itself has pretty much had its center here around Anchorage. We have members around the state, it’s just that it’s very difficult for them to participate.”
Clift said the party is considering forming auxiliary branches in various communities, like on the Kenai Peninsula. At the recent ALP convention, there were 25 people who voted in the new party leadership. Clift, as Chair, is joined by Secretary Cean Stevens and Membership Chair Ceezar Martinson.
Martinson, who will soon graduate from UAA, is part of a new generation of Libertarians…
Clift: “The younger people are interested in individual liberty, but they are questioning things, like the welfare state is the best way to talk about it. Where you take money from people who earn it and give it to people who haven’t. They have questions. Basically, the Libertarians are all about individual liberty and minimal involvement by government. I can’t see why anyone would have to argue with that. Why would you have to argue that liberty is better than tyranny?”
