Library Canceling Debts for Donations

Fine forgiveness in on the menu at the Soldotna Library where borrowers can pay off outstanding debts by donating food for the hungry.

The Library will forgive $1 worth of fines for every can or box of food brought in this week.

Linda Swarner said the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will accept the donations…

Swarner: “We treat everyone with caring, compassion, and dignity. Our food distribution is from Noon-4 Monday through Friday, if you walk in the door, you’re going to go home with bags of food. We also serve a hot meal, Monday through Friday from 11:30am – 2:30pm, and you can come five days a week all month long for a hot meal and just a place to come and get warm. The distribution of food is just once a calendar month.

The food drive is part of the National Library Week celebrations in Soldotna. Swarner said preserved proteins, like peanut butter or meat, are always in high demand. Last year they gathered close to 100 lbs of food.
