LNG Open House in Nikiski Tonight

AK LNG Project representatives will be meeting with Nikiski residents to discuss the giga-project tonight from 6-8pm at the Nikiski Rec Center.

Butt: Just an opportunity to talk about the project and let folks ask questions, learn a little bit about what everybody’s thinking.”

Project Manager Steve Butt said other open houses have been held in Nikiski and Kenai over the past 6 months, but this time around they’ll have details on this summer’s fieldwork to discuss.

Public Affairs Manager Kim Fox said they will be doing geotechnical and geophysical work starting late this month…

Fox: “Starting at the end of April, Nikiski residents will start to see some crews out clearing land and making access in areas around the plant site and the clearance will be very small, so the foot print will be small, but large enough for what we call geotechnical rigs to go in and do some soil samples on site. So we’ll see I think a total, over the course of the summer, 80 different borings, or soil samples, being obtained.”

A jack-up rig will also be moved into the shallow waters near the proposed LNG plant site in Nikiski, taking soil samples to determine the best location for the new facilities.
