LNG Project Studying Nikiski Land, Few Answers For Owners

Author: KSRM News Desk |

During yesterday’s media tour of the Alaska LNG Project’s work in Nikiski, Project Manager Steve Butt spoke about the importance of considering the owners of the Project, whom he said are the Alaskan people.

We asked Butt how the owners of the Nikiski land feature into their calculations and he assured us that their needs are being considered…

But local residents aren’t as confident. Bill Warren says he has one widowed neighbor who calls him crying about the situation…

Warren says he never planned on selling…

Carl Waggoner has been on the Nikiski bluff almost as long, with property overlooking his set net site. Waggoner has not been contacted by the Project, though his neighbors immediately to the north have.

For Waggoner, the biggest concern is what the State may do to set net sites which are in the way of development…

During yesterday’s tour, the Project declined to comment on what may happen to the fishing sites, saying that’s a decision which will have to be made in the future by the State and Coast Guard.

The Project is currently undertaking seismic work along Autumn Rd in Nikiski, testing the soils for construction. They’ve also been mapping the bottom of the Inlet for possible pipeline routes.
