Local Athletes Ready For Collegiate National Competitions

The NCAA Division I Cross Country Running Championships, the NCAA Division II West Regional Cross Country Running Championships and the NCAA Division I Soccer National Championships will all feature athletes that excelled as high school athletes on the central peninsula.

 

Allie Ostrander- KCHS Class of 2015

Allie Ostrander will compete for a third time in her collegiate cross country running career at the NCAA national championships having finished second and fourth for the individual title.  The University of Wisconsin-Madison will host the championships, Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course located in Madison, Wisconsin. The women’s race will begin at 11:45 a.m. Eastern Time.

Allie was named the West Region Female Athlete of the Year on Thursday by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, a second West Region athlete of the year award for Ostrander.

 

Rachel Thompson- Nikiski Class of 2015

Rachel Thompson will be in goal for the Washington State Cougars on Saturday when the Cougars battle undefeated Georgetown in the second round of the NCAA Soccer National Championships, the game to be held at George Washington University in Washington D.C.

Rachel, with a 3.78 GPA was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 team, announced by College Sports Information Directors of America, qualifying her for the national All-America awards to be announced in early December.

 

Dani McCormick – SoHi Class of 2015

Dani McCormick, competing with the UAA women’s cross country team, will battle for a Division II West Region cross country running title on Saturday in Billings, Montana.  Dani earned All-GNAC honors last week with a top-ten finish and a UAA women’s team championship.
