Local drifter Roland Maw has been named to the Bill Walker/Byron Mallott transition team subcommittee to represent fisheries.
He said he received a letter from the Walker/Mallott staff inviting him to represent fisheries and is not entirely sure of his list of duties.
Maw: “I don’t know the entire list of people who are on the transition team, but if I end up being the only one from the Cook Inlet then I will be representing fisheries issues for the Cook Inlet.”
Maw said that he is happy to be representing the Cook Inlet and feels that this administration is off to a good start.
Maw: “I think there’s some real issues that are facing us not just in Cook Inlet but statewide, just not only budgetary issues but also how fisheries are being managed and these were some issues that came up in the last administration that were not addressed, in my view, a particularly adequate way and so maybe we’ll have a chance to get some of those issues out on the table and see where they go.”
The subcommittees register tomorrow and begin meetings on Saturday at UAA.
Maw detailed what the subcommittees are there to do.
Maw: “What do we need in the way of legislation, what do we need in the way of budgeting, how are we going to realign programs, I doubt there are going to be very many new initiatives that are going to come forward simply because of the cost. So that’s the role of the transition team is to identify those three to six months horizon kinds of things.”
