The rise in popularity of food truck vendors has the City of Soldotna considering changes to the vendor’s permitting process.
Austin Johnson, with the City’s Planning Department, said the changes to city code will hopefully make the process easier.
Johnson: “The way that we permit them now they are required to turn in a site plan which is parking and different things like that. That will no longer be a requirement and they will also be allowed to move around from site to site.”
The city council ordinance would also change the 110 day time limit of the current permits to year round permits.
Johnson said the city has seen somewhere close to ten food carts apply this year, including vendors signing up for Soldotna’s new Wednesday Public Markets which extend to Live after Five music sessions.
The Soldotna City Council will take public testimony on changing city code Wednesday, June 10, beginning at 6 pm in the Soldotna City Hall.
