Steady rain throughout the two-day championships may have limited the field; however, the quality of play excelled at the Alaska Junior Golf State Championships contested Monday and Tuesday on the Birch Ridge Golf Course.
In the Junior Girls Division, Keely Sundberg carded a two-round total of 137 with a 9-hole round of 48 and an 18-hole round of 89. Sundberg trailed by four strokes after Monday’s first round. Evelyn Cooper finished second with a 143 and Taif Cooper recorded a 150 for third place.
The boys competition included four divisions.
The Boys 15 and Over featured two players playing 18 holes on Monday, so both could leave for Fairbanks for the 2022 Alaska State Amateur scheduled for Friday through Sunday at the Chena Bend Golf Course.
Shane Sundberg carded a front nine 40 and a back nine 40 for a total of 80 for the 15 and Over title. Jakob Brown shot a tournament-best 37 on the front nine and a 45 on the back nine for a score of 82.
The Boys 13-14 was won by Richie Lundahl with a 141, recording scores of 50 and 91. Josh Cowen finished second at 148 and Ethan Cowen recorded a 157 for third place.
The Boys 10-12 was won by Clayton Cooper with a 49 and 43 for a total of 92.
The Boys 9 and Under went to Minh Le with a 64 and 50 for a total of 114.
