A group of legislative leaders sent Governor Bill Walker a letter with suggestions to address looming budget concerns.

The letter was signed by Senate President-Elect Kevin Meyer,  the co-chairmen of the House and Senate finance committees, along with House Speaker Mike Chenault.

Spkr. Chenault: “After having meetings with the Governor over the last couple weeks, it was just suggestions that we could think of, one was (limiting) travel for department employees, a hiring freeze for all department vacancies, looking at six months of this fiscal year to see which agencies are working withing their budgets and which agencies are in danger of exceeding their budgets.”

The budget will likely be the top priority of the upcoming legislative session that will convene on January 21, 2015.
