Local Runners Tame The Alaska Relay Topping Field Of 14 Teams

Covering a course from Eagle River to Seward  in just under 25 hours, Team Navigationally Challenged conquered the trails and 13 other relay teams to claim the 2018 North By Northwest Alaska Relay team title.

 

Twelve runners comprising team Navigationally Challenged, competing in a relay format covered 187 miles of trails, hills, paths and roads from the Eagle River area start to the downtown Seward finish.  Fourteen teams finished the grueling competition Saturday afternoon with a final lap through the Seward streets. The race format included 12-person teams with each individual runner completing three legs of the 187 mile course, the teams split into two units using transport vans to shuttle through the course.  One Ultra team entry (six members running double the number of legs) competed in the 2018 distance event.

 

The winning time posted by Navigationally Challenged clocked in at 24 hours, 55 minutes and 24 seconds.

 

Team Navigationally Challenged consists of 11 Kenai/Soldotna area runners and a single runner from Anchorage.  Team members included: Alex Bergholtz,Mike Bergholtz,Erin Carpenter,Lee Frey,Sean Goff,Amelia Hall,Rustin Hitchcock,Addison Gibson,Darin Markwardt,Patrick Metzger,Kailey Mucha, and Daniel Serventi.
