Local Student Groups Advance To State Battle Of The Books Competition

Four Kenai Peninsula student teams are headed to the State Battle of the Books competition. The state championships will be held Feb. 24-27.

 

In a press release, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District said it was thrilled by the students’ accomplishments.  The district said it “saw enthusiastic participation from students across the district.”

 

The Battle of the Books program encourages students to explore diverse genres and engage in thoughtful discussions about literature. Teams read a pre-determined selection of books and then compete in a quiz-style format, demonstrating their comprehension and knowledge of the texts.

 

“This year’s competition showcased incredible dedication and passion for reading within our student body,” the press release said.

 

“We are immensely proud of all the students who participated in this year’s Battle of the Books,” said Julie Gottfried, Districtwide Librarian. “Their hard work, commitment, and love of reading were truly inspiring. The level of competition was exceptional, and it’s a testament to the strong reading programs we have in our schools and the support of our dedicated teachers and librarians.”

 

After a day of fierce but friendly competition, the following teams emerged victorious and will advance to the state competition:

 

“These winning teams demonstrated an impressive grasp of the assigned reading list and a remarkable ability to collaborate effectively,” the press release from the district said. “They will now represent the school district at the state Battle of the Books competition, where they will face off against other top teams from across Alaska.”

 

“We wish these talented readers the very best of luck at the state competition,” added Mrs. Gottfried. “They have already made our district incredibly proud, and we know they will represent us well. We are excited to see them shine on the state stage.”

 

The Battle of the Books program is a valuable experience that fosters a love of reading and promotes critical thinking skills.
