A Soldotna woman who originally wanted to set up an in home daycare has decided to become more involved in the City of Soldotna after a frustrating process.
In August, Robyn Schneider applied for a conditional land use permit in order to take care of a neighbor’s five kids along with her own eight children.
Schneider said the commission cited not enough parking and that some of the neighbors who had been notified did not want it on the corner of N. Kobuk and Redoubt.
After going through the long process of appealing, she was granted permission from the city to operate her in-home care center with six stipulations.
Schneider said her experience spurred her to want to become more involved in the community and when asking around was pointed in the direction of advisory commissions.
Although she originally applied to the library advisory committee, her first choice was parks and recreation and in November a spot opened and she was accepted as a parks and recreation committee member.
