The Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board has begun the daunting task of the 2016 Fiscal Year process.
Board President Joe Arness said it’s mostly still a guessing game at this point.
Arness: “We call it the 30,000 foot level, just the big number level where we have begun the process of sort of guessing at what’s going to happen with the state which we all presume is going to be bleak this year, what’s going to happen with the borough. We roll in the numbers from existing staff if they move forward one year, what is the impact of that, which is 85% of our budget so we can pretty well get a sense of that.”
Looming ahead are some big decisions.
Arness: “For this year it looks like it’s about 6 million dollars that we’re going to be upside down and we just have to determine how we’re going to approach that.”
A balanced final budget will be submitted to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly sometime around May 1st.
