Lt. Governor Candidate Edie Grunwald Discusses Priorities & Vision For Putting Alaskans First

Author: Anthony Moore |

Edie Grunwald was previously named the Lt. Governor running mate for gubernatorial candidate Charlie Pierce. In tapping Grunwald as running mate, if elected, Pierce said that she will be assuming oversight of the Division of Elections as well as other executive duties in their mission to put Alaskans first.

Grunwald appeared on the Tuesday edition of KSRM’s “Sound Off” talking about what she’d like to see accomplished:

Not only will I be able to jump in and address a lot of the election issues, that’ll be the priority, but he (Pierce) is also, for the first time ever, going to assign some executive oversight duties to me and that’s going to include the senior citizens programs and the issues that are going on, which is dear to my heart. Also, the Department of Military and Veterans’ affairs. Anything else that I can have influence on and be a part of, I absolutely will because, I think, most people know that the judiciary and crime is also pretty important to me and this is another opportunity to keep serving the people of Alaska, put Alaskans first, and really get some results and none of that rhetoric that’s been going on.”

Grunwald states that she and Pierce are building their team to run as a cohesive unit:

We know what the target is. We know what needs to get done. We’re going to work to get those results and put Alaskans first because when I ran back in 2018, that was some of the things that I was adamant about – putting Alaskans first. Of course, as you know, I had to throw all of my plans and went on ahead and resigned from the parole board because there just comes a time where you’ve got to serve for a bigger purpose and here I am. I’m pretty excited to be able to use my talents and skillset to help Alaska and I hope that’s the way the people perceive it.”

Most recently, Grunwald served as Chair of the State of Alaska Board of Parole. In addition, she spent 31 years in the military, starting out as an Air Force aircraft mechanic, and returning with the rank of Colonel. She also was a candidate for Lt. Governor in 2018.
