The Kenai and Soldotna Chambers of Commerce will meet at noon today for a joint luncheon about Alaska’s oil.

Kenai Chamber of Commerce President Johna Beech…

Beech: “We’ll be hearing from Larry Persily who’s the oil and gas rep with the Kenai Peninsula Borough, and John Hendrix who is the chief oil and gas adviser to the governor of Alaska.”

Today’s lunch will be at noon at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

John Hendrix visited Kenai in October and spoke with KSRM’s Merrill Sikorski about Alaska’s oil situation…

Hendrix: “Right now we are really low when it comes to our wealth meter when it comes to oil but we have a lot of opportunities. Calais is out there, Armstrong is out there, ConocoPhillips is out there, BP, Hilcorp, all these guys are out there looking for new possibilities and we need to work with them and help them. I think the biggest thing that we could do outside of tax credits is fix the regulatory part of permitting.”

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will also have a luncheon about commercial marijuana Wednesday. City Attorney Scott Bloom says he’ll review state laws, city regulations, zoning issues, and current developments in the city and borough regarding commercial marijuana.
