Mail Destroyed In Contract Carrier Semi-Truck Fire On Seward Highway

On Tuesday morning, Cooper Landing Emergency Services and Moose Pass units responded to a fully involved semi-trailer fire on the Seward Highway just north of the Seward cutoff. According to a press release, it was determined to be a USPS Highway Contract semi-truck, which departed from the Anchorage Processing and Distribution Center. The fully involved fire destroyed the trailer and its contents.

The truck was transporting mail for: Kenai 99611, Kasilof 99610, Clam Gulch 99568, Ninilchik 99639, Anchor Point 99556, Homer 99603, Fritz Creek 99603 Halibut Cove 99603, Nanwalek 99603, Nikolaevsk 99556, Port Graham 99603 and Nikiski 99635. The cause of the fire is currently unknown but under investigation.

Affected customers are being sent a letter.

Customers expecting mail and packages in these areas who think they may have been impacted should call the Postal Service Call Center at (800) 275-8777 for further information. If a package was insured, a claim can be filed online at: www.usps.com/insuranceclaims/online/welcome.htm.

Cooper Landing Emergency Services writes on social media that while the contents of the truck are a total loss, the driver was able to uncouple and save both himself and his truck from further injury.
