All jurisdictions of the Kenai Peninsula Borough voted on the proposition to repeal wintertime grocery tax. What would the results have been if only the general law cities(Soldotna, Homer, Seldovia) affected by the ordinance had voted?
While absentee ballots have yet to be counted, it looks like the jurisdictions that are mostly impacted by the non-prepared food tax would have still voted to repeal the ordinance: 1,606 voted yes, 1,280 voted no in eight districts(Homer No. 1, Homer No. 2, Kachemak/Fritz Creek, Seldovia/Kachemak Bay, Soldotna, Sterling No. 1, Sterling No. 2., and Central Peninsula).
Soldotna was the only general law city where residents voted overwhelmingly no with 63%.
Homer No. 1 and No. 2 voted 64% and 66% respectively in favor of the repeal.
Seldovia and Kachemak Bay voted 64% yes.
Kachemak Bay and Fritz Creek, many who may shop in Homer, voted 64% yes.
Central Peninsula voters, who likely shop in Soldotna, were divided by a small margin: 51% yes and 49% no.
Sterling No. 1 and No. 2 voted overwhelmingly yes with 59% and 60% respectively.
