A Palmer man who led law enforcement on a dangerous high-speed chase over the weekend turned out to be wanted by United States Marshals. According to the Department of Public Safety, 41-year-old Edwin Stoltenberg had an outstanding warrant, which AST learned of after he tried to flee police in Seward.

Alaska State Troopers in Seward say they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Friday, Jan. 24, on a white BMW sedan for a moving violation. The vehicle failed to stop and increased speeds to over 100mph, “weaving through traffic through Seward city limits.”

Troopers said the BMW lost control and went off of the roadway near mile 8 of the Seward Highway, leaving the vehicle disabled. Stoltenberg, the vehicle’s sole occupant, was subsequently arrested.

At this point, troopers learned of Stoltenberg’s warrant. According to DPS, a records check revealed an outstanding US Marshal’s warrant out of Anchorage.

A search warrant executed on the vehicle revealed controlled substances and paraphernalia consistent with distribution. After a medical evaluation, Stoltenberg was remanded to Spring Creek Correctional Center on the charges of 1st Degree Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer and 3rd Degree Misconduct Involving Controlled Substances and held without bail.

Additional charges are expected to follow.

The Alaska State Troopers are seeking information from the public in response to the pursuit. Any individual who had to take evasive action to avoid collision with the sedan is encouraged to contact the Soldotna Dispatch Center to make a report and provide a statement.
