March Madness Alaska for high school basketball featuring four days of state basketball tournament play at the Alaska Airlines Center on the campus of UAA moves to Saturday’s championship rounds.

Nikolaevsk Girls 39 -Yakutat 31  

Warrior girls down Yakutat 39-31 building an eight point lead at the half and playing even for the second half.

Ninilchik Girls 44 – Manokotak 37

The Wolverine girls advance to the Silver Bracket final on Saturday with a 44-37 victory over the Nunaniq girls.  Jordan Finney lead the Wolverines with 19 points.

Ninilchik Boys 47 – Anaktuvuk Pass 43  

The Wolverine boys rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second half to defeat the Wolves 47-43.  Ninilchik outscored Anaktuvuk Pass 17-5 in the final quarter for the win.  Dalton Geppert lead the way with 14 points, including three of four from the line to seal the win.

Nikolaevsk Boys 59 – Noatak

The Warrior boys overpowered Noatak turning a 12-point half time lead into a 22-point lead with a 20 point third quarter.  Neil Gordeev lead the Warriors with 19 points including 10 in the first quarter.

1A State Basketball Thursday Game Schedule & Results

Ninilchik Boys 64 – King Cove 39

The Wolverine boys controlled play throughout Thursday’s winner’s-bracket game against King Cove for a 64-39 Ninilchik victory.

Ninilchik lead 31-18 at the half and 52-26 after three quarters.

Tyler Presley lead the Wolverines with 19 point; Dalton Geppert added 16 points, four players scored in double figures.

The Ninilchik boys advance in the winner’s bracket to a 3:30 p.m. game on Friday against Anaktuvuk Pass.

Nikolaevsk Girls 27 –  Buckland 37

The Nikolaevsk girls offense was derailed on Thursday, managing only 27 points total and only eight points in the second half.  The Warriors shot 5% in the second half and Serofima Kalugin made the only two field goals of the half for the Warriors, en-route to a game high 12 points.

The Warrior girls will play Friday in the 11:45 a.m. contest against Yakutat.

Nikolaevsk Boys 54 – Scammon Bay 41 

The Nikolaevsk boys never trailed in the winner’s bracket quarter-final on Thursday afternoon, downing Scammon Bay54-41.  Felemon Molodih lead the way with 16 points.  The Warriors lead 31-17 at the half before Scammon Bay closed to within three after three quarters.  The Warriors closed with a 14-4 run.

Nikolaevsk will face Noatak in the winner’s bracket semi-final on Friday at 5:15 p.m.

Ninilchik Girls 42  – Hoslia 24 

The Wolverine girls started slow in Thursday’s consolation round contest against the Hustlers from Hoslia; before dominating the second half in a 42-24 victory for Ninilchik.

DeeAnn White scored 20 points and gathered eight rebounds in the victory.

Ninilchik will play the winner of the St.Mary’s vs Monokotak game in the consolation semi-final on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

 

 

1A State Basketball: Girls First Round

Aniak 34 -Ninilchik Girls 32 

The Ninilchik girls battle from a slow start to a close finish in the Wolverines tournament opener.  The Ninilchik girls feel the Aniak 34-32; the Wolverines had their chances late.  In the final minute, Ninilchik missed four-straight free throws and in the final :30 seconds, the Wolverine girls had three, three-point shots miss the mark.

Nikolaevsk Girls 46 – Newhalen 42 

The Nikolaevsk girls trailed with only two minutes remaining in the Warriors opener; however, Nikolaevsk rallied late for a 46-42 victory over Newhalen.  The Warriors, behind 17 points for 1A Player of the Year Megan Hickman and 11 points by All-State selection Serafima Kalugin outscored Newhalen 10-0 down the stretch after trailing 42-36.

 

 

1A State Basketball: Boys First Round

Nikolaevsk Boys 81 – Akiachak 39

The Warrior boys overpowered Akiachak 81-39 in Nikolaevsk’s first tournament game.  The Warriors lead by 17 at the half and scored 32 points in the third quarter.  Felemon Molodih lead the way with 21 points.  Jonah Fefelov added 18 and Neil Gordeev recorded 15 points. The Warriors out-rebounded the Huskies 44-18, including 20 offensive rebounds.

Ninilchik Boys 56 – St. Mary’s 39

After an even first period, the Ninilchik boys pulled away from St. Mary’s for a 56-39 first-round victory.  Austin White lead all scorers with 26 points and Pat Brandt added 12 points.  The Wolverines held the Eagles to four points in the second quarter.
