Marijuana Control Board members voted in support of an amendment to commercial regulations that will allow on-site consumption in retail establishments. They are continuing to review the remainder of 42 amendments submitted during the draft process for Alaska’s commercial cannabis sales.
Alaska is now the first state where legalized marijuana will be permitted to be consumed in sales businesses.
Dolly Phelps of the Kenai Peninsula Borough Marijuana Task Force detailed the group’s final comment before the public input period ended.
Phelps: “The requirement that the marijuana excises tax be paid prior to the sale. The proposed regulation wants it paid prior to sale and an existing statute on the books says that it will be paid monthly for the previous month, so that’s a big conflict that needs attention.”
Two other amendments MCB members are considering: an amendment to allow out-of-state investors to invest up to 25 percent and a change to residency requirements which also affects outside investing.
