Alaska’s Marijuana Control Board has approved draft regulations for how customers will be allowed to consume cannabis on-site in certain retail stores where the plant is purchased.
The proposed rules call for retail stores who choose to be permitted for on-site consumption to provide an area cordoned from the rest of the purchasing space via a secured door.
Products purchased for the purpose of on-site consumption at the store would have to be consumed there and would not be allowed to be removed. The Board members likened it to bars, where patrons are not permitted to take beers in to-go cups if they are not finished.
The proposed rules also implement transaction limits for on-site consumption and store employees would need to monitor patrons for signs of overconsumption.
The draft regulations will be put out for public comment.
No cannabis clubs have been licensed by the Marijuana Control Board yet in Alaska.
