The Marijuana Control Board met in Anchorage over the past two days to cultivate regulations for Alaska’s future marijuana industry.

Phelps: “For the application they want everybody in the family, even children, even minors to have their name, social security numbers, address, included on this application. And of course it makes no sense to have children included on any business license.”

 

Another rule thrown out by the board would have prohibited marijuana businesses from opening up near any operation with a liquor license.

 

The buffer zone between school zones and marijuana establishments was increased from 200 feet to 500 feet.

 

The Marijuana Control Board only worked through about one third of the second set of draft regulations before introducing the third set of regulations.

 

An extended meeting was scheduled on August 31 and September 1 to further discuss the board’s proposed regulations; the state has until November 24 to finalize commercial marijuana rules.

 

Public comment is open regarding set three until September 10.
