Marijuana Illegal on State Ferries

No tokes on State boats, the Alaska Marine Highway System has clarified that marijuana will not be allowed on ferries, even in state rooms.

Possession of up to an ounce marijuana has been legal in Alaska since February, and you may carry it onto a ferry, but pot can not be smoked or used in public places.

Jeremy Woodrow with the Marine Highway System said crew members will not actively search for marijuana, but they’ll monitor people suspected of carrying large quantities.

The newly-created state marijuana board is expected to produce a full set of regulations this November, with the first commercial marijuana licenses to be handed out in May 2016.
