Marijuana Task Force to Consider Motion Against Further Regulations

Members of the Borough’s Marijuana Task Force will consider a motion against implementing any regulations in addition to the State’s rules on cannabis cultivation and sales.

Task Force member Dollynda Phelps says she created the motion in response to what she called “crazy-restrictive conditional land use” permitting process proposed by a task force member who resigned.

Phelps: “My motion is actually to allow the state regulations to do their job, they’re very, very strict, they’re very comprehensive. Every concern that I’ve heard from the task force members is already addressed in the state regulations. So the motion is basically, if we can pass it, it would pass a recommendation to the borough assembly not to go any further with further restrictions.”

Alaska’s statewide Marijuana Control Board released their final 133 page set of amended regulations on December 1, 2015.

She says the task force has the option to review impacts at a later date or respond to problems after marijuana business permits are granted.
