The reigning state 1-2-3A champion Homer Mariners defended its Kachemak Conference 2015 title with a dominate performance at the 2016 Kachemak Conference Wrestling Championships, winning the team title and placing 17 male wrestlers to the 1-2-3A ASAA State Wrestling Championships.
The Mariners won nine weight class championships including: Wayne Newman at 106 pounds, Seth Inama at 113, Luciano Fasulo at 126, Jared Brant at 138, Timmy Woo at 160, Tristen Cook at 170, Levi King at 182, Kyle Wells at 195 and Jadin Mann at 285.
In the girls competition, Homer crowned four individual champions, each qualify to the ASAA Girls Wrestling State Championships. Individual champions include: Alex Moseley at 113; Mina Cavasos at 120; Allison Wells at 132; McKenzie Cook at 145; Heather Harrington at 220.
Nikiski High School
The Bulldogs qualify seven wrestlers to the 1-2-3A state tournament. Tyler Litke wrestled to a Kachemak Conference individual title in the 220-pound division. Other state qualifiers include: Joey Yourkoski, fourth at 98; Jordan Fleming, second at 106; Mason Payne, second at 113; Dustin Mullins, third at 170; Dakota Hupp, fourth at 195 and Ethan Hack, third at 220.
