Mariners Eliminated At Divison I State Hockey: West Battles South For Title

The Homer Mariners came up short in their bid to become the first Division II state champion to win a bracket game at the Division I State Hockey Champions, this format is only in its second year.

 

Homer 2 – Dimond 8

After pushing South Anchorage to the brink in a 4-2 loss in the tournament’s first round, the Mariners struggled to score Friday against a Dimond team which was upset in the first round in double-overtime by Colony, and hunger for redemption.

Dimond defeated Homer 8-2 with the Mariners receiving goals from Ethan Pitzman and Phinney Weston.  Keegan Strong recorded 47 saves on 55 shots in goal for the Mariners.

 

Division I State Hockey: Friday Results

West Anchorage 6 – Wasilla 3

West’s Matthew Patchin recorded a three-goal, hat trick in West’s 6-3 victory over Wasilla.

South 1 – Colony o

South goalie Hannah Hogenson recorded 28 saves in a 1-0 shutout of Colony.

 

West faces South in the ASAA Division I State Hockey Championship game scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Curtis Menard Sports Complex in Wasiila.
