The Houston Hawks completed an undefeated 7-0 regular season and handily shut out Barrow 40-0 in the DIII playoff game last Friday. Houston becomes the second team in two years from the Mid-Alaska Conference to complete an unbeaten run to the football championship game; Redington completed an undefeated 2021 season with the DIII championship. The Houston Hawks defense has allowed only four touchdowns in eight games en route to the championship game on Saturday.
The Homer Mariners enter the Division III championship game on Saturday with only one loss on the season to a DIII football team; a week-two loss to Houston. Homer’s offense revolves around senior quarterback Carter Tennison who recorded six rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown in the playoff victory over Nikiski.
Mariners vs Houston will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM, 96.9 FM and streamed live and free at radiokenai.com with the Sweeney’s Pre-Game Show scheduled for 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 15th.
