The Homer Mariner football team improves to 2-1 on the regular season and 2-0 against Division III opponents with a 50-7 victory over the Nikiski Bulldogs on Friday in Nikiski’s first home game and first regular season game of the re-vamped high school football season.
Homer 50 – Nikiski 7
Homer Quarterback Carter Tennison dominated play for the Mariners recording four passing touchdowns and a pair of rushing touchdowns in the Mariners 50-7 victory over Nikiski.
Nikiski opened the scoring with a 67-yard touchdown run by Koleman McCaughey on the Bulldogs second play from scrimmage. The Bulldogs offense failed to mount another touchdown drive; losing four fumbles and tossing two interceptions.
Homer scored on its first five possessions in the first half including: a 3-yard run by Tennison, a 32-yard touchdown pass from Tennison to Kian Smith, a 19-yard TD pass from Tennison to Sly Gaona, a 31-yard pass from Tennison to Gaona, a 20-yard pass from Tennison to Gaona. Half time score: Homer 36 – Nikiski 7.
Tennison added a 12-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs, in four possessions, lost two fumbles and threw an interception.
