Mariners Wear-Down Stars In 10-1 NSC Hockey Victory

For the first period, the Soldotna Stars held their own against the experienced, senior-driven Homer Mariners in North Star Conference hockey on Tuesday; however, the Mariners proved too much for the Stars as Homer recorded a 10-1 victory on home ice.

 

The Mariners lead 1-0 after one period able to crack the SoHi defense just once in-spite-of an opening, scoreless five minute power play.  SoHi goalie Corbin Wirz turned away 12 of 13 shots.  From that point, the SoHi goalies combined 28 saves on 38 shots.

Homer scored three goals in the second period for a 4-1 lead at the break.  The Stars only goal coming midway through the second period off the stick of Braxton Urban.

Homer closed with a six-goal, third period for the 10-1 confernce win.

Homer improves to 7-2 in the North Star Conference; SoHi drops to 1-8 in conference play.
