Maw Charged in Montana

Local drifter and former Board of Fisheries nominee Roland Maw has been charged for wildlife violations in Montana.

Authorities say Maw was charged with seven misdemeanors for purchasing Montana resident sporting licenses while residing in Alaska.

Beaverhead County judge Candy Hoerning in Montana said the charges were filed by the wildlife department on March 12.

Maw received Alaska commercial fishing permits as a resident from 1999 to 2014 according to state commercial fishing permit records. Before those dates his residency varied between Alaska and Canada.

He was nominated by Governor Bill Walker in January for the open seat on the Alaska Board of Fisheries, but withdrew in February.

Soldotna resident Robert Ruffner has now received the governor’s endorsement for that open seat.
