Mayor Hopeful Tom Bearup Hosts Meet and Greet

Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayoral Candidate Tom Bearup held a packed meet and greet at Froso’s.

 

He spoke to residents about changes starting in the community and extending those changes to Washington D.C.

 

Bearup: “I believe that people are reluctanct to get involved because they say that their vote doesn’t count, I want to turn that around and I want to encourage people to get involved, bring your ideas forth, let’s work together, have town halls, lets see where we have that common denominator to work together and its going to leadership to go out and do that, it’s going to take time.” 

 

He also talked about his opinion of the borough’s anadromous streams ordinance and government overreach in general.

 

Bearup: “Well I think that whenever you have a situation where you take people’s property away from them without compensation and then you monitor that you’re setting people up for failure, what I would like to do with the fishing situation, the river situation, the water situation is to take and work with the people that own the land to encourage them to develop their property in the way that they want in a very positive fashion.”

 

Bearup said he felt that many of the people who attended the meet and greet because they want to see a change in leadership for the community.
