Mayor Peter Micciche is hosting a community conversation about how best to support all homeschool families. The meeting to be held on Oct 5, 2023, at 6:00 PM in the assembly chambers at 145 Binkley Street in Soldotna.

The mayor wants to hear from parents from all over the KPB regardless of what home school program in which their children are enrolled.

Mayor Micciche stated: “This is about hearing directly from parents who homeschool their kids in our borough. I want to know, from homeschool families’ perspectives, what their kids need to be successful. What are the unique challenges and advantages of homeschooling, as they see it? I want families from every homeschool program available here on the peninsula to participate and contribute to this community conversation. I know they have vital things to share.”

KPBSD Superintendent Clayton Holland will be joining Mayor Micciche in this forum. They will be there to listen to you, but topics could include:

• Improvements that can be made to homeschooling to better serve kids
• The specific needs of homeschooled students here in the KPB
• What you and your family value most about homeschooling

In one aspect, the gathering will resemble an assembly meeting wherein people can step up to the podium and address the mayor and other leaders in the community.

However, the gathering is designed to be more conversational as those in attendance share their ideas and insights. The mayor intends to encourage a free exchange of ideas about how to make home school better for all students in the KPB. Reaching out to homeschool parents for this meeting is part of Mayor Micciche’s efforts to foster a more citizen-led approach to local government.

“The people of this borough have the solutions to the challenges we face. They are a critical part of making our borough an even better place to live, work and play. That perspective is invaluable to me. When it comes to homeschooling, parents are the experts in what their children need. I look forward to hearing from them,” said Mayor Micciche.
