The Kenai Peninsula, Fairbanks North Star, North Slope Boroughs along with the City of Valdez released a joint response to Governor Sean Parnell’s creation of the LNG Advisory Board.
The Mayors’ response letter expressed appreciation for the opportunity to be involved however raised the concern that terms between producers and the state will only be available to review after they’ve been agreed upon.
In an interview last week, Mayor Mike Navarre addressed that same concern.
Mayor Navarre: “It’s a little bit of a wait and see because we’re not sure how that process is actually going to work. We won’t be party to the confidential negotiations taking place.”
The letter stated that the board reserves judgment on how the process will adequately address municipalities’ concerns but understands the tremendous benefits of the proposed gas line and is committed to working with the state in order to advance the project.
