McCormick Races to 4th In 800M At NCAA DII Championships: Ostrander Ready For DI Championships In Pair Of Events

NCAA Division II Track & Field National Championships

Danielle McCormick, a 2015 Soldotna High School graduate, raced to a fourth place in the 800M  at the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Conpeting for the University of Alaska, Anchorage track program, McCormick earned her second All-American honor, recording a time of 2:06.34.  McCormick is the reigning NCAA Division II girls indoor 800M champion for 2018.

 

NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Sacramento, California

Allie Ostrander, a 2015 graduate of Kenai Central High School, qualified for both the 3000M Steeplechase and the 5000M for the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships scheduled for June 6-9 at the University of Oregon.

Ostrander clocked a 9:40.20 to take first place at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships on Friday in the 3000M Steeplechase.  Ostrander qualifies for the national finals and is the reigning national champion in the 3000M Steeplechase with a victory in 2017.

Ostrander also qualifies in the 5000M with a second place finish at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships.

Ostrander will compete in both events  for a second-straight NCAA championship, having won the Steeplechase in 2017 and finishing fourth in the 5000M final.

Ostrnader, on Tuesday, was named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Nominees must own a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30, have completed at least one year at their current institution, and be a starter or significant contributor who has competed in at least half of their team’s competitions.  The states in District 7 include Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
