McCormick & Theisen Place At Division II Track & Field Championships: Ostrander Races Thursday At Division I Championships

The national championships in collegiate outdoor track and field for 2017 are featuring three central peninsula athletes competing in both the Division II and Division I national championship track and field meets.

 

NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held last weekend at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, were highlighted by the performances of two local athletes with ties to Soldotna High School and Kenai Central High School.

 

Daniell McCormick , SoHi Class of 2015 and sophomore at University of Alaska, Anchorage, finished 7th overall in the NCAA Division II Womens 800M Run.  Mc Cormick recorded a time of 2:08.72.  McCormick qualified to the national meet based on a 2nd place at the GNAC Track & Field Championships.

McCormick set a UAA record in the 800M earlier this outdoor season recording a 2:07.60 and is a member of the UAA school record 4X400M Relay team.

 

Jonah Theisen, KCHS Class of 2015 and sophomore at Black Hills State finished 10th overall in the NCAA DIvision II Mens 3000M Steeplechase posting a time of 9:18.01.

Theisen was named 2nd team All-American for Division II Track and Field.

 

NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships opened competition on Wednesday and continue through Saturday at historic Hayward Field in Eugene Oregon.

 

Allie Ostrander, KCHS Class of 2015 and red-shirt freshman at Boise State University, opens national competition on Thursday afternoon.  Ostrander has qualified in multiple events, including the 3000M Steeplechase and the 5000M Run.

With a championship time of 10:00.02, Ostrander qualified for the NCAA Womens 3000M Steeplechase at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Austin, Texas.

Ostrander recorded a 16:25.76 in the Womens 5000M at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Austin; good for second place and a position at the 5000M finals at the national championships.

Ostrander, earlier this season, clocked a 35:51.20 to win the women’s 10,000M title at the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Utah State.
