The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) was notified that a resident of the Municipality of Anchorage tested positive for measles on May 21, 2025. The individual is a minor who has not been vaccinated against measles.
This investigation is ongoing, and health officials believe there is a potential for wider community exposure, putting non-immune persons at risk for infection. People who have not had measles infection or have not received measles immunization previously are not protected from the measles virus and should talk with a health care provider about receiving measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) immunization.
Individuals – especially parents, guardians, health care providers, and caregivers – are urged to be aware of the symptoms of this highly contagious virus and to ensure they are up to date with the MMR vaccine.
Locations of Potential Exposure to the Public
Anyone who was at the following locations during the times listed could have been exposed to measles and, if not immune, could develop symptoms between May 17, 2025, and June 2, 2025.

Anyone who was present at any of the locations listed above should:
- Verify your/your child’s vaccination history via Docket or with your health care provider.
- If you/your child is not up to date on the MMR vaccine, you should:
- Stay away from hospitals, nursing homes, known immunocompromised individuals, and large gatherings between May 17, 2025 – June 2, 2025.
- Monitor for fever, illness, and rash during the above date ranges.
- If you or your child becomes sick with a fever during this time, immediately contact a health care provider and stay away from other people. Keep your child at home until the doctor and school or childcare staff have cleared him/her to return to usual out-of-home activities.

Symptoms of Measles
Symptoms can appear 7-21 days (typically 10-14 days) after exposure. Symptoms include:
- High fever
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Red, watery eyes
- Rash (usually begins on the face and spreads downward to the chest and back, then to the thighs and feet; typically starts 2-4 days after onset of the above symptoms)
Individuals who develop symptoms of measles should contact a health care provider by phone before going to a medical office or emergency department. Special arrangements can be made for your evaluation while protecting other patients and medical staff from possible infection.
Vaccinations
The MMR vaccine series consists of two doses, which are available at primary care centers, pharmacies, and AHD. People interested in getting vaccinated at AHD can call 907-343-4799 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are accommodated when possible.
