Medicaid Expansion Scheduled to Begin Tomorrow

Medicaid expansion will take place beginning Tuesday unless the Alaska Supreme Court rules otherwise.

On Friday an Anchorage Superior Court Judge ruled he would not temporarily pause the governor’s plan for expansion while Alaskan lawmakers proceed with a lawsuit against the move.

Nikiski Representative Mike Chenault said the main point of the lawsuit is that Governor Bill Walker is breaking the Alaskan Constitution by possibly allocating state funding in the future.

Rep. Chenault said he has not spoken to any legislators who are opposed to Medicaid expansion but it must be done correctly.

The roll-out is anticipated to make around 40,000 Alaskans eligible for Medicaid.
