The State of Alaska has been suing a vendor hired to implement Medicaid payments, but the suit is on hold while they take a look at broader system issues.
Stacie Kraly with the Department of Law told the House Finance Committee that they’ll meet with Xerox before July 31st to establish whether the state finds the system acceptable.
The Xerox system was launched in 2013, but has experienced persistent problems and payment mistakes. State Health officials say they’ve taken major steps to improve the system and they feel confident it could handle demands related to Medicaid expansion.
If the system is approved, the State will seek federal certification.
Some Lawmakers in the Republican majority have been wary of expanding Medicaid while the current system was experiencing difficulties.
