Megan & Delei To Compete At USA Games

Two local members of Team Alaska will represent Alaska at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games scheduled for June 5-12, 2022 in Orlando, Florida.

 

Darryl Megan, from Soldotna, will compete in the USA Games in swimming.

Josh Delei will compete in the USA Games Team Bocce competition.

Darryl Megan and Josh Delei, both the representing Central Peninsula Community, will join a record 29 athletes, 11 Unified partners, 13 coaches and  14 support staff a part of Team Alaska.  Team Alaska  will compete in eight different of the sports including: Unified Basketball, Unified Bocce, Bowling, Unified Golf, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, Swimming, and Track & Field.

 

The USA Games will offer 19 Olympic-style team and individual sports, including athletics (track & field), basketball, bocce, bowling, cheerleading, equestrian, flag football, golf, gymnastics, open water swimming, powerlifting, soccer, softball, stand up paddleboard, surfing, swimming, tennis, triathlon and volleyball.

 

A send-off for the local athletes is planned for Friday, June 3rd at 12:15 p.m. (arrive at 11:40 a.m.) at the Kenai Airport and will include several emergency vehicles lined up, displaying lights and sirens as well as a processional of individuals wishing Darryl and Josh well as they board.

A send-off party is also planned in Anchorage on Friday at the Special Olympics Alaska Training Center at 3200 Mountain View Drive at 5 p.m.
