State Senators are taking public comment today on the overburdened operating budget. This morning it was Seward’s turn, this afternoon central Kenai Peninsula residents can testify via the Kenai LIO Office at 2:30pm.
Senator Peter Micciche’s Chief of Staff Larry Semmens…
Semmens: “It has been interesting to listen to the testimony. There was hours and hours and hours of testimony until about 8 pm last night, so there are a number of Alaskans who are taking advantage of the opportunity to let their Legislators know that they are concerned about budget cuts.”
Semmens said some had testified in favor of new income or sales taxes rather than a loss of programs.
Senator Micciche said he wants to hear from his district…
Sen. Micciche(R-K. Pen): “Most of the folks that are testifying testify that their pet project has been cut so we’d like to hear from those that are both concerned about the cuts, but we’d also like to hear from people that realize that we’re doing a very tough job of carefully cutting where we need to. We simply need to reduce this budget and I think everyone realizes that. We’d like to hear from the folks that agree.”
The Kenai LIO is located on Main St Loop in Kenai.
