The Mat-Su Miners took four of five games in the five-game series with the Peninsula Oilers and on Wednesday night rain proved the big winner. Four games in the series were either rescheduled or shortened due to rain with the Oilers managing only a single victory.
Miners 2 – Oilers 1
Missed opportunities again plagued the Peninsula Oilers as the Oilers left 10 runners on base in five innings including leaving a runner at third base in every inning; as the Oilers drop a 2-1 decision to the Mat-Su Miners.
Mat-Su scored two runs on two hits in the third inning which proved enough in the rain-shortened ABL game.
The Oilers left bases-loaded in the second inning and left two runners on in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Andrew Sojka plated one run in the fifth with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly. Oilers starting pitcher Liam Rocha allowed only one earned run in five innings while striking out four and allowing only three hits.
The Peninsula Oilers have an off-day on Thursday and open a five-game series against the Anchorage Bucs on Friday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park. Game time is tentatively scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
