Miners Sweep Doubleheader From Oilers

With both teams maneuvering for the upcoming ABL Top of the World Series, the Mat-Su Miners took both games of the Friday doubleheader from the Peninsula Oilers.

 

The Miners won game one 4-2 and game two 4-3 with both teams using multiple pitchers, many position players, and saving select arms for the playoffs.

 

Miners 4 – Oilers 2  Game One

The Peninsula Oilers, trailing 4-1 in the seventh inning, scored one run and left bases-loaded in a 4-2 loss.  Noah Hennings recorded two RBI for the Oilers.  The Oilers recorded two runs on four hits and left eight on base; Mat-Su recorded four runs on five hits.

 

Miners 4 – Oilers 3   Game Two

The Oilers left bases-loaded in the first, third and sixth innings and fell 4-3 to the Miners in game two of the doubleheader.  The Miners also left the bags full three times and left 13 runners on base.  The Oilers outhit Mat-Su eight to five.

The Oilers opened the scoring in the first and the Miners tied the game; the game remained tied 1-1 through four innings.  The Oilers lead 3-2 until a two-run, fifth inning for the Miners.

 

The regular season is scheduled to end on Saturday with the Oilers playing the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks in Chugiak with a 6 p.m. scheduled first pitch.

 

The Oilers stand in fourth place in the Alaska Baseball League and will play the #1 seed Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the first round of the Top of the World Series, the ABL’s culminating event schedule for July 31st at Mulcahy Park.  (see Top of the World Series story for details)
