‘Minimal Disruption’ in Soldotna Airport Construction

Author: archive |

Pilots who frequent the Soldotna Airport have been running over some difficult terrain; Soldotna City Engineer Kyle Kornelis said the asphalt apron was starting to show its age…

Kornelis: “The main entrance and kind of a long drag east-west there that is in need of major maintenance, probably some sub-grade work too and remove some of the soils that are creating the asphalt cracking.”

Kornelis said the $3 million pavement restoration project is just starting. The contractor will start with safety and environmental work, like stormwater pollution prevention, before milling the old pavement. Kornelis says the work should cause minimal disruptions…

Kornelis: “Well the phasing plan will have to accommodate aircraft and airport users. We won’t be prohibiting any use of the airport. There may be some detours at the airport and some work to ensure aircraft users and fixed-base operators can continue to use the airport at all times.  Part of the construction phasing plan will make sure there’s no major obstacles to operations at the airport.”
