The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge (KNWR) has issued a missing person alert for Robert Weaver. He was last known to be at the Doroshin Bay public-use cabin near Skilak Lake on Wednesday, June 25.
Derek Thompson, Patrol Captain for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, said Weaver was on a personal trip. His supervisor at the National Park Service, where Weaver is currently stationed in Denali National Park, alerted officials to his disappearance yesterday morning.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service began investigating and were led to the Doroshin Bay cabin, where they found evidence and correspondence through an inReach device that helped direct the search effort.
“Immediately at that point, we started bringing resources together and putting them in the field,” said Thompson.
Multiple agencies are involved in the search, including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, and Alaska State Parks. The ongoing search includes ground crews, river teams using rafts and jet boats, and drones. Fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters are also on standby.
Weaver accessed the Doroshin Bay cabin using a commercial air taxi. His vehicle was found at the air taxi service’s business parking lot.
What Weaver was wearing at the time is unknown.
