More Alaskans Mauled By Bears In Alaska

Two more Alaskans were mauled by bears in Alaska over the weekend, bringing the number of bear attacks in the state to four in less than a week, including two fatal ones.

 

Alaska wildlife officials say they don’t know why there have been so many attacks in such a short time. But one official speculates that perhaps the distribution of food sources such as prey animals like moose could be closer to people this year.

 

Two people were injured in separate brown bear attacks on Saturday, one on military land in Anchorage and the other near the community of Hope.

 

Two other people were killed last week in separate black bear attacks. One was a 16-year-old boy taking part in a mountain race in Anchorage, and the other was a mine contract worker attacked 275 miles northeast of Anchorage.
