The Kenai Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from a residence on Iowa Street at 7:04 this morning.
Chief Jeff Tucker said there was a substantial amount of smoke coming out of the eaves and various places of the structure.
Tucker: “We made entry into the building, they found fire involved in the area behind garage corner where the boiler and heater system was at, it extended down through a wall underneath some stairs and the lower level and crawl space area. Pretty extensive fire damage in that area of the building. “
The residence is currently unoccupied as the owners were trying to rent it out and have been notified.
Two Kenai engines responded along with a medic unit, command vehicle and a mutual aid engine from Central Emergency Services.
There is not yet an estimate on the cost of damage and the City of Kenai Fire Marshal is currently investigating the fire.
