Online registration and lottery applications for the 2016 Mount Marathon Race are due by Midnight, March 31st.
Selection for Adult Race Divisions
The priority system opens up about 125 lottery slots for each of the men’s and women’s races. This benefits former runners who lost their priority status and want to regain a slot.
The 350 slots for the adult races will be filled in the following order:
- Priority Racers
- Earned spot or approved petition. See all rules pertaining to Petition Application and Earned Race Spots.
- Lottery Winners – the remaining slots are filled with non-priority racers through a random weighted lottery selection process.
Selection for Junior Race Division
The 125 boys and 125 girl slots for the Junior Division will be filled in the following order:
- Priority Racers
- Approved petition. See all rules pertaining to Petition Application.
- Lottery winners. The remaining slots are filled with non-priority racers through a random weighted lottery selection process.
Weighted Lottery
Beginning in race year 2014, the lottery selection process began to use a new, weighted formula, exponentially increasing the odds of winning a lottery place in the race, based on the number of times you have applied. This means that applicants that apply multiple times will have an increased chance of being selected. Applicants are assigned an adjustment weight each year they apply and are not selected for the lottery.
*Petitioners and earned race spots are not eligible for priority status.
Mount Marathon Race
The Mount Marathon Race is scheduled for July 4.
The Mount Marathon Race® application process takes place beginning January 1st each year and closes at midnight, Alaska time, on March 31st. The foot race is a climb and descent on Mount Marathon – a mile and a half up and a mile and a half down, complete with cliffs, scree fields, waterfalls, and a spectacular view.
