Yellow Brick Films is shooting its fifth film “Sugar Mountain” in Seward and its crews have been working closely with locals since early March.

Assistant City Manager Ron Long commented on the experience.

Long: “It’s been really pretty positive. Economic impact has been good, certainly by having a bunch of extra people in town during the slow season eating in restaraunts and staying in hotels, but beyond that the experience has been pretty positive as well. They’ve integrated themselves into the community, they’ve been respectful of the communities feelings and spaces and haven’t just rolled into town and taken everything over and they’ve involved a lot of locals as extras in small parts of the movie from what I understand.”

One such extra was Erin Lemas, who was an extra in a scene filmed in Seward’s Pit Bar.

Lemas is also part of the Seward Chamber of Commerce and said that the crews have really included the community by having weekly screenings.

Lemas: “The director gets up and he talks about the different stuff they’ve filmed and how great Seward’s been and he’ll give shout outs to various businesses that helped them that week and then they’ll do the screening of the movie and everybody just goes ballistic, like WOOOOO! Ya know, it’s beautiful, the shots that they are getting, it’s awesome, and they’re really great bunch of people too, they’re really personable and great to work with.”

According to Yellow Brick’s website, “Sugar Mountain” is about two brothers who fake getting lost in the wilderness in order to have a great survival story however find the hoax to be a little more real than they planned.

Sugar Mountain’s Ron Holmstrom will be on KSRM’s Soundoff to talk about the movie at 10 am on Friday.
