Municipalities Accepting Candidacy Applications

Kenai, Soldotna, and the Kenai Peninsula Borough have opened their candidacy filing periods.

 

The borough’s filing period opened this morning at 8:00 am and as of 11:00 am, Clerk Johni Blankenship said she had not verified any candidates.

 

Blankenship: “We have District 1, the Kalifornski seat, District 6 East Peninsula, District 9 South Peninsula, and we have school board seats that are also up. That’s District 2 Kenai, District 5 Sterling/Funny River, and District 8 Homer.”

 

Assembly Member Kelly Wolf currently represents the Kalifornsky Beach(District 1); he was elected to his seat in 2012 with a 50.33% win over Michael Winegarden.

 

Assembly members Sue McClure of the East Peninsula(District 6)  and Mako Haggerty of the South Peninsula(District 9) have reached their term limits.

 

The Kenai Peninsula Borough’s filing period closes on August 17 at 12:00 noon.

 

In Soldotna, only Seat A incumbent Paul Whitney has filed for his current city council seat.

 

According to Kenai Clerk Sandra Modigh, no one had filed as of 10:00 am.
